Why has the format of this year's Rally changed?
In recent years it has become increasingly difficult for Rally to remain financially viable. The cost of the 2009 Rally was subsidised from reserves by an amount approximately equal to £25 per adult. It is not possible to continue this level of subsidy on an ongoing basis, but without it the cost of last year's adult Rally package would have been £215 per person, which is rightfully perceived by many to be too expensive.
Having considered various options we have decided to reduce the standard Rally package to a 2 day event. This, together with various cost saving initiatives, means that we can offer Rally at a much more affordable price.
Traditionally Rally commenced on Friday evening with a black tie function which was similar in many ways to Area Ladies Night. Removing this function not only saves the cost of the meal itself but also the associated entertainment costs plus an overnight stay. It also removes the time pressure on those who need to collect children from school on Friday afternoon before travelling, and still arriving in time to be ready for a formal function early on Friday evening. For those who choose to leave their children at home in the care of others, we hope that this too will be easier to accommodate with the revised 1 night package.
In addition, for die-hard Rallygoers who still want to retain the "whole weekend" experience we also have a 2 night package, which includes Dinner Bed and Breakfast for Friday night in addition to the standard Rally package.
Obviously the change of format will not suit everyone, but we hope you will be prepared to give it a try so that Rally may continue for many years to come.
